Hair Transplant FAQs

All generic forms of Finasteride and Minoxidil are made overseas and produced in bulk. Therefore, the purity, quality, and effectiveness are inferior to well-manufactured US options. In addition, pharmacies constantly change manufacturers, so the medicine you receive today will likely not be coming from the same place tomorrow. This change in manufacturers can lead to variable results and unwanted side effects. In addition, the generic Minoxidil liquid (non-foam) formulations all contain propylene glycol to prevent the liquid from crystallizing while sitting on the shelf. This ingredient is a sister compound to anti-freeze and can lead to skin sensitivity (itching, redness, dandruff, etc.). The pharmacy Dr. Yaker uses sources 95% of all ingredients from the United States. The medications are freshly manufactured locally and shipped straight to your doorstep. Furthermore, the ingredients are all USP “pharmaceutical grade” with an accurate “Certificate of Analysis” on each ingredient. Each batch is tested to detect dosing, potency, purity, stability, and sterility. You only need to apply this topical medication to your scalp once daily. Whether it’s morning, mid-day, or night, please follow these instructions:

Before applying this medicine, make sure your hair and scalp are completely clean and dry. If you wash your hair before applying, you can towel dry, or blow dry your hair.
It is recommended to use the pipette provided; you will apply 0.75ml over the 3 rows of your scalp once daily. Most patients prefer to apply the medication before bedtime.
Beginning over your left eye, part the hair to expose the area of the scalp. Then, place 0.75ml in a line from the left portion of your hairline all the way to your crown. Next, over the center of your hairline, part the hair and apply 0.75ml in a line from hairline to crown. Finally, over your right eye, part the hair and apply 0.75ml in a line from the right portion of your hairline to crown.  Make sure to rub the medication into your scalp after applying each section. If your temples have hair thinning, you may add a few drops to each temple.

4. Immediately wash your hands after using this medicine.
5. Do not wet your hair for 3 hours after applying. For example, don’t apply the topical medication and go shower or excessively exercise.
6. This product does not need to be washed off until the next time you wash your hair.
7. Since only a small percentage of this medication can penetrate the scalp, accurate dosing is important.
8.Let the solution air dry. DO NOT use a hairdryer to dry the scalp after you apply. If you would like to add volume to your hair after the solution has dried, you may use a hairdryer to the hair but try to avoid the scalp as best as you can.
9. You may use any of your hair products (gel, hair spray, etc.) after without affecting your result.

In patients with a light complexion and skin tone, the scalp may appear slightly more pink than usual due to increased blood flow from Minoxidil and/or retinoic acid. Redness, dryness, flaking, inflammation, and discomfort to the scalp can occur but are rare, mainly because of its added anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, this product contains absolutely NO propylene glycol (skin irritant found in over the counter Minoxidil solutions).

While only less than 4% of topical Minoxidil can absorb through the skin, rarely Minoxidil can slightly lower blood pressure, and may lead to an increase in hair growth or “peach fuzz”, usually on the face or forehead. Very rarely, patients may get chest pain, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), lightheadedness, or dizziness, insomnia, headaches, as well as swelling of the hands or feet.  Should you experience any side effects from this medication, please discontinue the product and contact us immediately.

With regards to topical Finasteride and topical Dutasteride, while sexual side effects (low libido, ED, lowered semen quantity) rarely occur with oral forms, they are even more rare with topical administration.

Do not use any form of Minoxidil or Finasteride if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or plan on getting pregnant. It is also not recommended to be used if the skin on your scalp is cut, irritated or sunburned.

No. The ingredients found in this medication do not leave a sticky residue commonly felt with over-the-counter Minoxidil or other topical prescription solutions. Applied correctly, there should be little to no impact on your hairstyle.
Like with anything we topically apply to the skin, only a certain small percentage will penetrate the skin (a substance makes it way to the different levels of the skin but not to the bloodstream) and an even smaller percentage truly absorbs (substance makes it way to the bloodstream) through skin. Therefore, it is expected that the remaining product dry on your hair and scalp. That is why we recommend washing your hair each day.
Yes. However, should you ever experience irritation or discomfort while getting your hair colored, please hold off on using the topical medication for 1-2 days before you color, and 1-2 days after you color, to prevent the chances of having another skin sensitivity reaction. In some patients who color their hair, Minoxidil can lighten your hair quicker.
Yes. Each refill contains three bottles. When used compliantly, one bottle equals one month. Since these medications are made without preservatives, each bottle has an expiration date listed. You can go up to 30 days past the expiration date before the ingredients degrade to a level that makes this medication useless.
Just like with stopping any medication you take for a chronic condition, once you stop there is no medicine in your system available to help fight against your hair loss. So, spontaneous reversal to your pre-treatment state generally occurs within 1-3 months after stopping treatment. Then, there is no telling how much more hair you will lose in the future as your hair destiny cannot be predicted.
